(trendingpoliticsnews) – The White House has assembled an impeachment “war room” ahead of a potential inquiry from House Republicans when Congress returns from summer recess.
According to a report from NBC News, the White House counsel’s office has been preparing a response to an impeachment inquiry into President Biden for months. Republicans have staggered the release of a mountain of evidence linking the president to influence peddling schemes involving foreign nationals, including bank records, witness testimony from key figures and documents compiled by highly credibly FBI sources.
Biden’s aides, staffers and allies intend to push back on potential impeachment proceedings a politically motivated plot that lacks evidence. “Comparing this to past impeachments isn’t apples to apples or even apples to oranges; it’s apples to elephants,” one White House aide told NBC News. “Never in modern history has an impeachment been based on no evidence whatsoever.”
A number of House Republicans have already filed articles of impeachment against the president, but the effort is expected to significantly gain steam as lawmakers return from summer recess. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has stated that an impeachment inquiry is a “natural step forward” based on the evidence and information presented to date.
The White House has been working on fine-tuning their statements and strategy to frame the issue for over a year, another Biden Administration aide told NBC News.
McCarthy has stated that the impeachment inquiry will largely focus on First Son Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings with foreign nationals, stating that there is “a culture of corruption that’s been happening within the entire Biden family.”
“If you look at all the information we’ve been able to gather so far, it is a natural step forward that you would have to go to an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy said during an interview with Fox News on Sunday. “That provides Congress the apex of legal power to get all the information they need.”
Biden aides are reportedly using the 1998 impeachment of Bill Clinton as a model to squash the effort while making Republicans pay a “political price.” The Biden Administration’s response team includes defense attorney Richard Sauber and Russ Anello, the former staff director of the House Oversight Committee.
The Biden Administration’s “war room” is structured to be able to push back on investigations into the president’s conduct while the rest of the administration can focus on Biden’s agenda. Staffers hope to prevent the administration from “getting “bogged down in the minutia of ongoing investigations,” a White House aide said.
