BREAKING: DA Alvin Bragg Sues House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan Over ‘Campaign to Intimidate’

(trendingpoliticsnews) – Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has filed a lawsuit against House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan, accusing him of launching an investigation into Bragg’s prosecution of former President Trump as a means of “intimidation and attack” against his office.

Bragg’s lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in New York on Tuesday, comes after Jordan sent a subpoena to Mark Pomerantz, of a former prosecutor involved in the Trump investigation. Jordan had also requested personal emails.

The lawsuit claims that “[Bragg] brings this action in response to an unprecedently brazen and unconstitutional attack by members of Congress on an ongoing New York State criminal prosecution and investigation of former President Donald J. Trump.”

“Beginning on March 20, 2023, Representative Jim Jordan, Chairman of the House Committee on the Judiciary (‘the “Committee’), began a transparent campaign to intimidate and attack District Attorney Bragg, making demands for confidential documents and testimony from the District Attorney himself as well as his current and former employees and officials.”

“Congress has no power to supervise state criminal prosecutions. Nor does Congress have the power to serve subpoenas ‘for the personal aggrandizement of the investigators or to punish those investigated” Bragg’s lawsuit wrote.

Last week, former special assistant district attorney, Mark Pomerantz, who led the investigation into former President Donald Trump’s finances, had been subpoenaed by Jordan. Pomerantz resigned from the Manhattan district attorney’s office in protest after the district attorney hesitated in pursuing Trump’s case.

Bragg had criticized the move by Republicans as an attempt to undermine an active investigation and called on elected officials to “fulfill their oath of office” by not interfering in an ongoing criminal matter in state court. Pomerantz’s testimony hoped to provide further insight into the investigation and potential legislative reforms to protect presidents from politically motivated state and local prosecutions.
